Swimming and kayaking

4st discipline

Length:

  • 500m swimming
  • 4 km kayaking

Description:

Mass start, sound signal - the kayaker runs from the Start area to the river, jumps into water and swims down a buoy-marked track (400 - 500 metres) to kayaks prepared on the river bank (who comes first chooses first), gets to the boat and rides about 4 km. Having done the kayaking stretch, he/she gets out to the river bank (carrying the kayak), runs to a pitch (the competitor has to carry both the kayak and the paddle) and passes on to the runner.

  • The race starts on a football pitch
  • Mass start, competitors start without boats and paddles
  • Average time expected for this discipline: about 45 minutes
  • Start - in the pass-on corridor
  • Finish - in the pass-on corridor
  • Gear:
    • For swimming - own gear (neoprene suits allowed)
    • For kayaking - to be provided by the organiser (kayak, helmet, life vest)
  • Average time expected for this discipline: 20 min

Basic safety rules:

  • The competitors have to be good swimmers
  • Each competitor is obliged to wear a helmet throughout the race (fastened under his/her chin) and has to wear a life vest
  • The competitor's position (fastening) in the boat has to make it possible to get out of the boat immediately in case of capsizing 

Reasons for penalties: 

  • The team shall be penalised in case of failure to stick to the marked-out track (applies to both swimming and kayaking)
